Hey, what about Call of Duty? What? Already mentioned? Like 50 times? Oh. Well, uh...there's my vote then.
Haven't tried CoD2 yet, but the first one was great. That's really been the only FPS I've been interested in since before the original Quake...got burned out on FPSs after Doom II. So I can't really recommend anything else past that.
Oh, wait. I did play Halo on the PC. Which was great until the Flood showed up. Then I quit in disgust.
Whoop, then there's Serious Sam, Second Encounter I think. Played that one. Guess I played more than I thought.

I also play DoD:S, and I have to say it's great fun. My biggest problem with it is the speed - you can run a million miles an hour. Crossing an open field when an MG opens fire at you? No problem - just sprint to the brick wall 50 feet away in 1 seconds. Also, the way a lot of the maps are built, sniping doesn't feel like it should. Instead of waiting for an enemy to come out so you can shoot him, sniping is more like scoutzknivez, where you're unscoping and scoping while strafing left and right shooting as fast as you can.
However, unrealistic as it might be, it's still fun, especially with the new ironsights.

i played both F.E.A.R. and CoD 2, though i only played FEAR for 5 minutes and the CoD for like, 10
F.E.A.R. is very scary, at least to me. You see things, you hear things, and your scared shitless. The gunfights, however, are awesome and theres lots of personality to the game. But, you need a REALLY beefy system to truly enjoy all the blood effects and graphics.
CoD 2 is less scary, but its still one of the most intense shooters out there. One of the earliest missions pits you and a few NPC's against a Nazi fortress, and you have to stop a Nazi semi-invasion and take out the fortress. Pretty good stuff, and really quick paced and action packed.
Simply put, F.E.A.R. is has a bit less action, but gives alot of thrills and chills, and CoD 2 has tons of action, and tons of thrills. I would personally pick CoD 2.
but...these are just opinions and observations that i made, so dont flame me!!!
DoD:S is also pretty good, but i like to play through storylines sometimes.

WWII FPS's = teh suk. Sorry... but it's just SUCH an overdone genre. If I never see another WWII shooter again, I'll die a happy man. Why do developers insist on rehashing this stuff when they should be cooking up new IP's?

for online play please consider Battlefield 2 and Star Wars Battlefront 2.
While I play Doom 3, Quake 4 and Far Cry - to me they're mostly single player games with multiplayer options. BF2 and SWBF 2 are primarily enjoyable multiplayer experiences.
Games I'll be getting in the near future:
F.E.A.R. - wonderful game with terrific graphics gameplay and story ... but seriously hard on your video card, processor and memory ... very technologically demanding
CoD 2 - looks very promising - best WW 2 FPS graphics I've ever seen
Swat 4 - I like the single player demo and the enemy AI as well as the replayability of single player scenarios - I hear good things about the multiplayer part as well

Swat 4 = yummy. Both single player and multiplayer kick some major booty.

If your PC can handle Far Cry, I would assume it can handle FEAR yes?

ZOMG I'd forgotten about Descent! Hella fun that was.
Ooh, just Googled it and came up with Freespace. I'll have to check that out sometime.

90% of WW2 games are crap, and though there are tons of them on the market, you cant judge the 10% of the other games on the quality, and quantity, of similar games. Simply put, the Call of Duty series is one of the best game series out there, right below Half Life.
but everyone is entitled to their opinion, and im just giving mine.

You can't tell me the characters don't look out of place as HELL. They're such a different style from the enviornments it's like you've got little claymation army guys running around a good looking enviornment. I don't know about you but I DON'T look like a clay army man wrapped in plastic wrap.

Well, here's another.
http://media.pc.ign.com/media/620/62...g_3106330.html
And being that I've played the game on my PC myself, I know what it looks like maxed out. The characters always look like they're wet clay. I don't know about you, but my pants don't shine. And look at how well they blend in with the enviornment! Don't they look like they're running on the ground! (...are they even touching the ground?)
